โซดาแอช (Soda Ash) หรือชื่อทางเคมีคือ โซเดียมคาร์บอเนต (Sodium Carbonate) มีสูตรเคมีคือ Na2CO3 เป็นสารประกอบเกลือของกรดคาร์บอนิก มีลักษณะเป็นผงสีขาว ไม่มีกลิ่น สามารถดูดความชื้นจากอากาศได้ดี และละลายได้ในน้ำ เมื่อละลายน้ำแล้วจะมีฤทธิ์เป็นด่างแก่ ซึ่งหมายถึงมีค่า pH สูง (ประมาณ 11.5 - 14 ขึ้นอยู่กับความเข้มข้น)
คำว่า "แอช" (Ash) ในชื่อ "โซดาแอช" มาจากความจริงที่ว่าในอดีตเคยพบสารนี้ได้จากขี้เถ้าของพืชหลายชนิดและสาหร่ายทะเล
คุณสมบัติที่สำคัญของโซดาแอช:
ลักษณะทางกายภาพ: เป็นผงสีขาวละเอียด ไม่มีกลิ่น
การละลาย: ละลายได้ดีในน้ำ แต่ละลายได้น้อยในแอลกอฮอล์
ความเป็นด่าง: เมื่อละลายน้ำจะมีฤทธิ์เป็นด่างแก่ ทำให้ค่า pH ของสารละลายเพิ่มขึ้น
ดูดความชื้น: สามารถดูดซับความชื้นจากอากาศได้ดี
จุดหลอมเหลว: มีจุดหลอมเหลวสูงถึงประมาณ 851 องศาเซลเซียส

การปรับสภาพน้ำ:

ข้อควรระวัง:
